Private Forestry Southern Queensland (PFSQ) is an incorporated ‘not-for-profit’association, whose primary function is to assist in the development of the private forest industry in southern Queensland.

A management board of 6 eminent forest industry representatives oversees PFSQ.

PFSQ receives some funding from a number of NRM groups to address sections of their regional strategic plan. The funding covers extension and training programs in Native Forest Management to landholders to improve the productive and environmental outcomes of the private native forest resource as well as plantation establishment and management.

PFSQ also undertakes a range of commercial operations including Native forest and plantation assessment, property and harvest management plans as well as managing harvests and Stand Improvement Treatment operations.Our membership comprises farm forestry support groups, Industry representatives, Government representatives, Landcare groups and individuals with an interest in private forestry

Provision of information and services:

  • Technical advice (Based on currently accepted best management practices)
  • Development of information products.
  • Newsletters and publications (Including, Queensland Forestry Network News)

  • Industry contact directories (Directory of Goods and Services)
  • Workshops and Field days

Assistance with policy development:

  • Input to Federal, State and Local Government processes
  • Ensuring policies and regulations support private forestry
  • Interpreting policy to member groups and forest owners

Industry development:

  • Support for establishment of forest grower co-operatives
  • Developing partner projects with industry to address natural resource management issues
  • Promoting available industry support services
  • Investigation and expansion of market opportunities
