And the building extension begins

by Bronwyn on June 8, 2011

The Woodworks Museum is getting an extension prior to PFSQ moving in.

Sean Ryan , Dave Menzies and Gary Clarke felled the trees  from a nearby property at Cedar Pocket, then milled them with Sean’s portable Lucas mill.  They were then trucked to the site and the building began!!! Yea

It was all hands on deck for the PFSQ team of Sean, Gary, Dean, Cliff and Dave and even  Bill Schulke came down from Gin Gin to lend a hand.

Private Forestry Service Qld has officially taken over the Museum from May 1, however, until the extension is finished, we won’t be having an official re-opening until July.

There are many exhibits to be displayed and we’re having a Timber Industry representatives meeting on June 24 to try to gauge support  for our proposed changes for the Museum.  We wish to have the museum as an educational centre also, highlighting, not only the history of timber in the Gympie region, but also the enormous role timber and it’s ancillary industries bring to our region.  With this in mind, we are hoping to have displays from all the various timber sections showing the growth  from the founding days of Gympie up to the present day.

It is hoped that schools will look upon a visit to the Museum as great entertainment, but intrinsically linked with that will be a lesson on the history and social outcomes regarding  the role of sustainable timber management, it’s environmental outcomes and the financial benefits it brings to the community.

Here’s a few pics of the extension from top to bottom.
